In the meantime, those without PSVR can get nostalgic with the PS2 classic on PS4. The events in Rhombus of Ruin will act as a segue between Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2.įor now, PSVR owners will get to revisit the world of Psychonauts first with Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin. The sequel doesn’t have a release date, but the Fig campaign has a tentative window of the back half of 2018. Double Fine and an undisclosed external partner will cover the rest of development costs. Those contributions represent a portion of the development cost. The campaign received more than $3.8 million in contributions, roughly $500,000 more than the stated goal. ![]() Double Fine setup a crowdfunding campaign on Fig shortly after the reveal. News of the startling sales leap came alongside the announcement of Psychonauts 2 at The 2015 Game Awards. In a remarkable turnaround, by the end of 2015, cumulative sales of digital and retail units had surpassed 1.7 million units. It quickly became a cult hit, but by the end of 2012, total sales had only eclipsed 400,000 copies. Although it was well-received critically, it only moved 100,000 copies by the end of 2005. The original game launched in 2005 for Xbox and PlayStation 2 and a PC port followed in 2006. Powers from the first game such as clairvoyance, telekinesis, and pyrokinesis will be at Raz’s disposal. ![]() The story will take advantage of its VR platform, as players will be forced to use only Raz’s psychic powers to complete the objective. Their mission will take them to the heart of the Rhombus of Ruin, an oceanic location likened to the mysterious Bermuda Triangle. Damn that thing is fun to operate in VR, but if you don't have your VR legs on tight, it can turn your stomach inside out.Starting directly where the original ended, Raz and pals - Lili, Sasha, Milla, and Coach Oleander - are off to save Truman Zanotto, the Grand Head of the Psychonauts. Another good game that gave me that sense of movement, as well as a touch of motion sickness, was the airboat in HL2:VR's Water Hazard level. I play a lot of racing games in VR and they all lack teeth a bit because I don't really feel like I'm moving. On a related note, it's one of the very few games to have ever given me an actual sense of momentum - which was fun. I also noticed a bit of motion sickness on occasion with the game, but it was never enough to bother me to the point of having to take off the headset. The game's story bridges the events between Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2. It was released for PlayStation VR in February 2017 and on Microsoft Windows in April 2018. Everything is just license agreement with increasingly un-consumer friendly terms and which can be terminated at any time for any reason. Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin is a virtual reality adventure game developed by Double Fine Productions. It's not like you own the games you buy now anyhow. Enough to keep me from ever buying one of the dev's games again, but the damages just aren't worth the effort to recompence. I wasn't too concerned, since it only cost me a few dollars on a sale. The lacking variety of songs is another common complaint - though this was a concession since they had to license a LOT more songs to remix into the concert modes, which themselves acted as "boss battles"/endurance matches and added significantly, IMO, to the gameplay loop. The forced story mode and module grinding ruins it. The game itself is, IMO, one of the best Project Divas that still has a ton of exclusive tracks. Project Diva X gets a special consideration - because it's VR mode is neat, but contains no gameplay, just virtual concerts. Your entire purchase, and them money you spent, was just erased from existence. Eve Valkyrie was good while it lasted, but doesn't make the list because it's not just offline and de-listed, you can't even play it offline. Not licensing out Journey songs for the soundtrack docks points. Thumper is decent, but a bit 2 dimension for a 3D VR game. Skyrim VR gets bumped off the list because Bethesda are terrible at VR games and Plank/Higgs/VRIIK absolutely embarrass the lazy port Bethesda tried to get you to pay $60 for. Dreams can be hit or miss, but that largely depends on what you download from it or what you create with it. Game Discussions Previous AMAs PSVR Dev?
